In 1988 Zakhem established, together with Tamar Raban and Anat Schen, an organization called "Shelter 209" a non-profit organization for the Advancement of Performance Art in Israel

 

After his death, the Performance Art Platform was founded by Shelter 209 Foundation in memory of Dan Zakhem for the Advancement of Interdiscipinary Arts in Israel.

 

The Performance Art Platform Center for Performance Arit in Israel was the dream of the late Dan Zakhem and other Shelter 209 founding artists.  In 2001, it opened its doors at the Merkasim House in Tel Aviv after 13 years of working out of the public bomb shelter no. 209 in Ramat Aviv.  The Center was destroyed at the height of it activities when the Mercazim House burned down by a large fire on June 24, 2003.

 

The Performance Art Platform's new home is in Tel Aviv's new central bus station, where activities have been resumed.  It is the permanent home of Ensemble 209 – a group of interdisciplinary artists from diverse social and cultural sectors.  It is home for artists and an audience interested in quality art that is uncompromised in and noncommercial, and thus provides an alternative to art available in Israel today

במת מיצג היא מרכז לאמנות בינתחומית, המשמש כבית לאמני מיצג בישראל. במת מיצג מציעה עשייה אמנותית חיה וניסיונית, המהווה חלק ייחודי באמנות העכשווית הישראלית. הקמת במת מיצג הייתה הגשמת החזון של אמני מקלט 209 – דן זקהיים ז"ל, תמר רבן וענת שן, שייסדו את העמותה ב-1988. לאחר 13 שנות פעילות במקלט ציבורי 209 ברמת אביב, הוקמה במת מיצג בשנת 2001 בבית מרכזים בת"א. ביוני 2003, נהרסה במת מיצג בשריפה הגדולה בבית-מרכזים. החל ממרץ 2004 הועבר מקום פעילותה לתחנה המרכזית החדשה בתל אביב.
